by royal decree[edit]

What does it mean that this organization was "established by royal decree"? It sounds impressive, but for a monarchy that has purely ceremonial functions – and of a country in which the organization apparently doesn't even do business – it smacks of meaninglessness, like getting a prince to cut the ribbon at your supermarket opening or some bureaucrat with a royal seal stamping your articles of incorporation. -Jason A. Proposed new content for this page[edit]

World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) International is a not-for-profit organisation that leads a network of cancer prevention charities: the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR, based in the US), World Cancer Research Fund UK, Wereld Kanker Onderzoek Fonds (based in the Netherlands) and World Cancer Research Fund Hong Kong. The organisation funds research through a grant programme in each of its member countries. Its research focuses on cancer prevention, specifically cancers that are caused by lifestyle factors including diet, weight and physical activity. It also funds research into cancer survivorship and the prevention of secondary cancers. In 2018, WCRF International and AICR published Diet, Nutrition, Physical Activity and Cancer: a Global Perspective* – the third in its series of expert reports[1] summarising cancer prevention research from the previous decade, using systematic literature reviews. The organisation also published its Cancer Prevention Recommendations[2], which are a series of 10 suggestions on how individuals can reduce their cancer risk. WCRF International also funds the Continuous Update Project, a database of research on cancer prevention and survivorship linked to diet, weight and physical activity. The database is hosted and compiled by researchers at Imperial College London. The organisation is a member of the NCD Alliance* and the Union for International Cancer Control, and has official relations status with the World Health Organisation.
