I am currently working on Wikifying this page. I plan to add a lot of additional content regarding exceptions to Zaitsev's rule due to steric issues, as well as due to stereochemical restraints in the starting material. I also plan to add several new figures. If anyone is interested in joining me, please feel free to do so. I plan to be posting the new content within the next several days. Little question. Isn't the "β-carbon" the second carbon that attaches to a functional group (the carbon is attached at the second, or beta, position). In 2-iodobutane, being the 2-iodine the functional group, isn't the "α-carbon" the carbon-3 and the "β-carbon" the carbon-4? What am I missing here?--Spmoura (talk) 19:42, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
