name[edit]

Why not move Ukrainian first? Ilya K 11:44, 17 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Z.N. is a historic name (Dz.T. was added later). Besides, Z.N. seems to be the name the paper itself uses more frequently (I am less sure, just my impression) and more frequently used by others. If I am alone feeling so, and majority feels otherwise, that's fine, and we'll move. Let's wait for what others say at this page. The topic is of not too much interest and we may need to wait longer than standard 5 days of "requested move". So, I would just wait, rather than submit a request.
If we find that many users find the ru name unacceptible on the "general principle", a remote but a possibility, we could than use a "compromise" Mirror Weekly for the article's mane name :). It so happends, unfortunately, that non-Ukrainianess of the name is, sometimes, less of a problem, than Russianness. Ilya, I did not mean youself personally at all, of course. Your opinions were always reasonable :) as most of the other Ukrainian contributors. Cheers, --Irpen 17:31, July 17, 2005 (UTC)
Standard rule is that newpapers titles are not translated, but transliterated. Their English version gives "Zerkalo Nedeli" and we should stick to it. It may be a good idea to create redirects from "The Mirror Weekly (Ukrainian newspaper)" and "Mirror Weekly". Sashazlv 02:15, 18 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I've done it yesterday, when expanding the article. I didn't create a redirect from Dzerkalo tyzhnya only because I didn't want to touch any raw nerves and create the accusations that this was done only to complicate the reverse move. You are welcome to do that, of course. Your reputation will ensure no silly accusations will ensue. Cheers, --Irpen 02:21, July 18, 2005 (UTC)
FWIW I found it very disconcerting to go from this article to zn.ua and discover that the page had a different name and language by default than the Wikipedia article suggested. --90.110.87.211 (talk) 08:49, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
