Tarves Primary School offers a primary school to children from Tarves and other areas in Aberdeenshire. It is a small school with a large catchment area, but a decreasing number of pupils. The village, with its traditional buildings, has seen four main housing estates built around it. The houses on the most recent estate became available in 2009. The school operates with the help of the small community to make a positive and affective learning process.

The school building dates from 1911 and has been enlarged over time. It served as a Junior Secondary/Primary School until 1979, when secondary teaching was transferred to Ellon.[2] Pupils now go to Meldrum Academy which opened in 2002.

In August 2002, a Nursery was added to the building's west wing.
