John Wolley (MP)[edit]

I am afraid the hook is too long. I am afraid that you have to shorten it by 13 characters. John Wolley you linked to lived in the 19th century and appears to have had nothing to do with either James or Mary. Surtsicna (talk) 23:22, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for catching the problem with the link. I've fixed it. I've also shortened the hook. I don't think it has as much punch without any mention of the fact that Mary, Queen of Scots, was King James' mother, but rules are rules. NinaGreen (talk) 01:12, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
- I see. How about:
- ALT1 ... that John Wolley assured King James that his mother Mary, Queen of Scots, was being well treated, and 4 months later was one of the commissioners who tried and sentenced her to death?
- This is shorter and more accurate, since Wolley did not become Sir John until 1592. It is also punchier, in my opinion. What do you think? Surtsicna (talk) 11:48, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

- Thanks. I've changed 'Sir John Wolley' in the hook to 'John Wolley', as per your suggestion. I'd like to go with the version above with that modification rather than ALT1 or ALT2, as readers need to know the date, and the fact that Wolley was 'sent' by the government to reassure King James (i.e. it wasn't a private assurance).
