Oregon Mandolin Orchestra[edit]

Created by Aboutmovies (talk). Self nominated at 05:20, 16 November 2014 (UTC).

  • Article is new enough, long enough, and has adequate references with no evidence of plagiarism; hook is appropriate length with in-line reference. However, hook source is from 2011 so present tense doesn't seem appropriate. While adding "as of" date would take care of this problem, I recommend alternate hook as follows:
ALT: ... that the 30-member Oregon Mandolin Orchestra is modeled on the traditional mandolin orchestras that were popular in the United States during the 19th century?
This hook is covered by the same source as original hook. I've added appropriate text to the article (with in-line reference) to cover ALT hook.--Orygun (talk) 02:53, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
  • The original hook sounds like a palindrome. Let's go with ALT1. Yoninah (talk) 16:32, 27 November 2014 (UTC)
  • ALT1 pretty much copies the source; I changed it in the article to remove the close paraphrasing. There are quite a few other instances of phrases being lifted from sources, which may seem inconsequential one by one, but add up to a lot of close paraphrasing. • Can you give specific instances? I've never had this problem before, as where possible I change the expression, but sometimes you simply cannot express something differently. Given this a fairly dry, fact-based article, there would be few opportunities to avoid somewhat close paraphrasing. Aboutmovies (talk) 07:29, 1 :December 2014 (UTC)
I went through all the sources. While there was some close paraphrasing, it was limited to brief statements of fact that can only be said in a limited number of ways without adding unnecessary fluff to the text...just the sort of thing WP:LIMITED is designed to protect. I think this DYK is ready to go; recommend using ALT hook.--Orygun (talk) 23:08, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
