Havana Harbor painting, 1639

A 1639 watercolor painting of Havana Harbor, Cuba. The recorded history of Cuba dates to 1492, with the arrival of Christopher Columbus on his first voyage to the Americas. Prior to that, the island had been inhabited by the Guanajatabey, Ciboney and Taíno peoples. By 1514, the Spanish had founded a settlement that eventually became Havana.

Artist: Joan Vinckeboons; Restoration: Lise Broer
