Collapsed state[edit]

How to manage this template's initial visibility

To manage this template's visibility when it first appears, add the parameter:

|state=collapsed to show the template in its collapsed state, i.e. hidden apart from its titlebar – e.g. {{Pizza chains |state=collapsed}};
|state=expanded to show the template in its expanded state, i.e. fully visible – e.g. {{Pizza chains |state=expanded}};
|state=autocollapse to show the template in its collapsed state but only if there is another template of the same type on the page – e.g. {{Pizza chains |state=autocollapse}}.

Unless set otherwise (see the state parameter in the template's code), the template's default state is autocollapse.

When placing this template on the article pages, please use the following guidelines:

  • Please place the template after any template that is company specific, e.g., in the Pizza Hut article, the {{Yum!}} template would go first, then this one.
  • When there is another similar template, such as {{Restaurant chains in Ireland}}, place the template that covers the country the company is based in first, e.g., in the Pizza Hut article, this template would go second because Pizza Hut is based in the United States.

Guidelines for inclusion[edit]

When adding new chains to this template, please follow these guidelines:

  • Global chains are defined as having locations in at least three countries.
  • Regional chains are defined as having locations in a single country, or two adjoining countries, e.g., U.S. and Canada.
    • When adding a two-digit country code after the chain's name, do not include every country the chain operates in. Only include the country the company is based in. E.g. - A chain is based in the UK with locations in Ireland, France and Germany. In this example, you would put [[British Pizza]] (UK) in the template but not [[British Pizza]] (UK, IR, FR, DE)
  • Please do not add chains that have less than a hundred or so locations.
  • This template should only include chains that are national or are in a sizable region of a country. For example, if a chain has only a few locations in a single U.S. state, it should not be included.
  • Please only include chains that have an article on Wikipedia, do not add red links or external links.
