Usage

The {{WikiProject Linguistics}} project banner template should be added (not substituted) to the talk page of every article within the scope of WikiProject Linguistics. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner.

For quickly adding this banner to talk pages, use the basic syntax:

{{WikiProject Linguistics|class=class|importance=importance}}

If you want the full range of options, the syntax is as follows:

{{WikiProject Linguistics
|small=
|importance= <!-- Top, High, Mid, Low, NA -->
|class= <!-- FA, A, GA, B, C, Start, Stub, FL, List, Category, Disambig, File, Portal, Project, Template, NA -->
|maindykdate=
|needs-image=
|attention=
<!-- Task forces -->
|applied=
|etymology=
|philosophy=
|phonetics=
|sfl=
|theoretical=
}}

To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.

General parameters

  • small – "yes" if the banner should be rendered in its miniature size; this should be used sparingly and only on crowded talk pages for the time being.
  • importance – a measure of the article's importance to WikiProject Linguistics as a whole, according to this scale. Values can be "Top", "High", "Mid", "Low", or "NA".
  • class – a rating of the article's quality, chosen from this assessment scale. Values can be "FA", "A", "GA", "B", "C", "Start", "Stub", "FL", "List", "Category", "Disambig", "File", "Portal", "Project", "Template", or "NA".
  • auto – this is used by WikiProject-tagging bots to indicate that the "class" parameter has been filled in automatically. Please delete this parameter if making a manual assessment.
  • maindykdate – the date the article appeared in "Did You Know?" on the Main Page, if applicable.
  • needs-image – "yes" if the article would benefit from having more images
  • attention – "yes" if the article requires immediate attention. If this is specified, the article will be listed in Category:Linguistics articles needing attention.
