This template was considered for deletion on 2017 December 14. The result of the discussion was "keep".

I think this template needs to be modified so as to support the absence of ancestors where in the same generation others are known. For example, ancestors #44 and #45 are not known so their corresponding boxes should disappear like the example shown on Wikipedia:Family trees. At the moment, the boxes would still appear displaying "{{{44}}}" and "{{{45}}}" despite the fields being completely omitted. Olliffe Φ Obscurity 09:14, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure why one would need to show more than one generation if one could click on the parents and see a one-generation tree of their parents. But desirable? That is harder to predict. The benefit of this depth of information is that you can compare two people to see if they are related at the distance of fourth cousins. On average, the healthiest offspring are from fourth and especially third cousin marriages. Within wikipedia it is a navigation tool to allow researchers to easily move between pages to examine property and kinship connections. It also makes it easier to research certain social issues such as the derivation of status from renowned ancestors. It also aids in determining factors that may explain events that happened long ago that modern researchers have the tools to better explain.
