IMO this template is too large. Perhaps it makes more sense to add the family tree to Brahmic family, and replace this with a saller, horizontal navigational box (or perhaps just leave it at the 'writing systems' navigational box. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joost (talk • contribs) 12:35, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Oriya language or script is a descendant of Brahmi script but not a descendant of Proto-Bengali script, please see the following categorization which says that Kalinga script is the precursor of modern Oriya script.
