We've had category names before, but apart from interfering with page layout, the terminology is problematic; some people prefer 'rapid transit' to 'metro' for some reason, 'LRT' is a similarly problematic term, and the division of the main-line railways into commuter/intercity isn't all that clear-cut either (several VIA routes are highly commuter-oriented, and some people use GO for non-commuting-related travel).
