Coat of arms[edit]

consensus image 2009 – 21 March 2018

There has been a consensus for the last nine years (since 2009) to have a narrow coat of arms image in the right side of the template. (View a recent example of the template with the original image in this version.) On March 22, 2018, User:195.56.247.82 changed the image to one with a wider aspect ratio (including oak clusters left and right), and increased the size from 80 to 150px. (View that version here.)

Two attempts to restore the long-standing consensus image were both reverted by IP 195. I've restored the image again, and requested that per WP:BRD, the consensus image should remain until a new consensus is determined, to be worked out here on the Talk page.

My view is that we should either stick to the original, tall-and-skinny image, or have no image at all. The new image is nearly double the size of the old one (despite the odd edit summary claiming it isn't), and it takes up a lot of width in this growing template, leaving less room for the links and stretching the template longer in the vertical direction.

My preference would be for no image, as I view nav templates as being densely populated by links for navigation. As this template has a growing number of links, my feeling is that the wider image takes up too much screen real estate, reducing the amount of row width available for nav links, and leaving a wide, empty column on the right, where the image is. But if we are going to have an image, then at least have a skinny image, sort of like the one that was there before, so that it leaves plenty of room for the links, which is what a nav template is all about. Agree, it looks better with the smaller image. I like it with the image, instead of without it. Funandtrvl (talk) 22:50, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
