[edit] Image map
Please check this discussion and comment. - Ganeshk (talk) 16:26, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Header colours
- The colours used for capital and metros are too far apart. Since metros can be considered to be a subset of capital cities, I suggest that the header colour be moved to one as close as possible to the capital colour.
- Request new fields for the metro infobox:
- City-area
- City-population
- City-density
- Metro-area
- Metro-population
- Metro-density

[edit] Locator map
The locator map isn't aligned at the center as you can see in Ettayapuram. I don't have the patience to go through the esoteric template code. Can someone fix it? -- Sundar \talk \contribs 07:18, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] I am still a little confused
Hi Ganesh,
Can we please improve the naming of these templates to make it more intuitive. What I mean is, we should just have templates called
- {{IndiaStateInfobox}}
- {{IndiaDistrictInfobox}}
- {{IndiaTalukInfobox}}
- {{IndiaCityInfobox}}
- {{IndiaTownInfobox}}
- {{IndiaVillageInfobox}} -->this one may not be needed.
Also, I believe in the District and Taluk infoboxes, we should have the concerned state map with the district or taluk marked on it instead of the India map. Or maybe we can have a small India map and the state map blown up from it(Hope you get the idea).
As of now, India jurisdiction infobox, is not named very intuitively. I tried working on these infoboxes today.... I was trying to move some fields from that KAR infobox into this but looks like you've already redirected it here. I dont know if I am missing something. Sarvagnya 16:41, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
-
- There is no need for a seperate templates like you have listed above. All of them are handled with a single box with a parameter called "type". State infobox alone is seperate, use {{India state infobox}}. Having a single template really helps with maintenance. Features can be added to the box that can affect all types of articles.
- The reason the locator map is used is consistency across Indian geographical articles. Also for the reader, it first identifies where the subject is located with respect to India. Please think about global audience here (not Indians alone). District maps like you refer to can be added in a section of the article, "Administration" would be the best fit.
- The name of the box does not matter. It is not visible to the reader, it is just a vehicle to produce a box of meaningful information.
- All the fields in the KAR has been moved here. If you still have doubts, you can copy to the source of the KAR box (pull it from history) into your sandbox and test it.
[edit] Requests
Request for following features:
- Header coordinates. It seems to be present, but it does not appear on the top of the page
- parameters to enter the city+metropolitan area & population
Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 11:51, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- Both done. Let us know if there are still issues. Thanks. Saravask 19:36, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks! Could the parameters in the above example also be updated? =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:23, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
- Now it's updated. I put the metro area in parentheses "(metro)" after the city area. If this won't work, we can try some other layout for it. Thanks. Saravask 19:13, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks! Could the parameters in the above example also be updated? =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:23, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Locator dot is invisible
I can't see the locator dot on the map (although when I mouse over the location it points to the image page). --Schzmo 23:30, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- Could you upload a screenshot or something? I can see it in Firefox and IE. It might be browser issues. Thanks. Saravask 23:53, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Postal code bug
If you leave the postal code parameter blank, then the entire "Codes" section is not displayed (even if you provide telephone and/or vehicle parameters). --Schzmo 17:09, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- This has been fixed. Thanks. Saravask 01:55, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Few doubts
- What is the purpose of the paramter "taluk_names"? If it is for the name of the taluk, i suppose it should be "taluk_name". Also the displayed name should be "Taluk". A better name would be "sub district". Sub distrct names like Taluk, Tehsil etc differ from state to state. Please see Nomenclature and Number of Sub-Districts in States/UTs.
- How to use the "type" field? I filled in "village" as a type in this page, but it doesn't seem to have any impact. --(Sumanth|Talk) 08:34, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
-
- "Village" and "town" types have been added. Saravask 03:59, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Changes required
I've noticed that "population" and "area" fields are displayed even if they are not filled (see this example). I tried correcting this but was not successful. Can someone please correct this? --(Sumanth|Talk) 12:05, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] class change "infobox geography vcard" comparison
A class change was recently reverted from "infobox geography" back to "infobox". "Infobox geography" is the standard class for infoboxes of this nature. In any case there is a side by side comparison is the Template:Infobox Indian jurisdiction/Sandbox if anyone wants to view the difference. —Regards, MJCdetroit 16:14, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
-
- I reverted the class change because it caused the box to take up extra space. For people (like me) who mostly write articles, every centimeter of vertical space counts, since infoboxes often shove images, timelines, and charts far down past the text that they were meant to be displayed next to. If its absolutely necessary, we can do a straw poll or find a way to make the change without bulking up the template (and adding excess cell borders that make it look like a rib cage or earthworm--we want to group data into logical blocks). But, IMO, {{Infobox Australian Place}} has the cleanest design and features (notwithstanding the width/height padding that they chose), and I'd prefer that this template resembles it.
- Also, I've heard that small single-use meta-templates like {{pop density km2 to mi2}} should be hard-coded, since they tend to increase article load times. Please advise if I am wrong, though. Thanks. Saravask 23:40, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
The first part to your reply: I was just putting it out there; use it, don't use it. I just wanted other people to see the difference. The class "Infobox geography" verses class "infobox" either way, in my opinion, it is a fine looking infobox. The second part: I haven't heard that and I know plenty of articles and infoboxes that use small templates like that. They make the code a little simplier. And yes, I do agree that the folks that worked on the Infobox Australian Place did a fine job. It is one of the better ones. —MJCdetroit 01:33, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
- The failed WP:AUM proposal has more details on my second point. Honestly, For example, this template once used {{convert}} for all conversions. I noticed that, once I hard-coded for complex templates like {{convert}}, load times improved dramatically (they were cut in half, or by several seconds). Also, I noticed that the conversion template was frequently tinkered with, often causing the template syntax to break and fail. It might have to do with the number of if/else blocks, though, since I noticed no difference when simple templates like {{AutoLink}} were hard-coded. Saravask 13:36, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
I guess the one downfall of {{convert}} is that it is an all-in-one template, as opposed to a single use meta-template. Meaning that it is capable of converting a lot different things. If someone tinkers with that template it could affect everything and not just the area of the template that was changed. I am sure that there is a way to test this? —MJCdetroit 15:04, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
- I did a test (although not very scientific) trying to compare the load times of the Mumbai article in two different sandboxes when using an infobox that is hard coded and one that uses meta templates. After saving the articles, the meta-templated infoboxed article was always a little faster loading than the hardcoded one. Although the time difference was nothing to get exicited about either way. The past problems you had were probably something that was inherent to Template:convert more than anything else. :) —MJCdetroit 16:16, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
- Sounds good. BTW, I noticed that when the convert templates were used, the altitude figure stopped displaying whenever the area_total input is missing (for example, compare Itanagar with Srinagar). Do you know how to return it to the previous behavior? Thanks. Saravask 17:01, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
- Misplaced }}. My fault. Seems to work now. :) —MJCdetroit 20:40, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Other ideas
The only other things I could think of would be to add a optional parameter for "other name" and maybe change the field name "altitude" to elevation. Other name could be helpful for instances where the common name or the name from the British Empire days has changed, e.g. Bombay. Altitude is how high an airplane is and elevation is how high a settlement is. Of course, both of these I would consider minor. —MJCdetroit 01:09, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- "other_name" would be useful; it could also be used to display the place's name in native script, though that has been discouraged in the past. I see that displaying ultiple names is common for other countries' cities (see Harbin or Sapporo). Other people can comment. But
altitudeis a legacy param used in thousands of articles; it would require bot work to fix. The field's caption is now "Elevation". Saravask 22:24, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Slimmed version
I want to create a mini-version of this template, to be used for translating into other wikis, with the sole parameters of name, locator map and coordinates. How should I proceded, without having to copy entire template and subpages? --Soman 08:51, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- The code is modular, so you can delete blocks of it without wrecking the template. Just delete everything below the
###### Coordinates ######section and above the final|}. Also, the template uses one subpage ({{Infobox Indian jurisdiction/Parameters}}). If you need more help, just ask. Saravask 22:13, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] hCard; Categories
I've tried adding hCard markup (classes "vcard" "fn org" and "nickname"), but the "fn org" doesn't seem to be appearing in the output (its span should wrap the place name). Can anyone fix that, please? I've also changed the template to use a more specific category, Category:Articles on India needing coordinates from May 2007 (et seq) Andy Mabbett 07:30, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

- Pigsonthewing/Andy Mabbett, why do you keep trying to stuff the title coordinates into the infobox? It causes them to be unreadable (I use Firefox, BTW). Also, I don't see why an "adr" class is needed for geo fields like "locality", etc. Please explain. Thanks. Saravask 00:30, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Please see the hcard cheatsheet. Andy Mabbett 00:33, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Auto categorization
Is it possible to check whether the page already has been categorized and only then add a category? If this is not checked a category would be shown twice. --(Sumanth|Talk) 12:15, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
- Ok. The category is displayed only once even if it is added twice in the article. So no problem.--(Sumanth|Talk) 12:23, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Google maps
All the maps seem to link to Google. Why do we link to a commercial site like google maps when Wikipedia is all about non-propriety software?--Seraphiel 05:52, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- There's no intent to endorse or unfairly prefer Google. The straight link was PlaneMad's suggestion. Initially, I wasn't sure of the need, since we already had {{coord}}. But it has turned out to be a handy feature that is useful in checking and calibrating coordinates, browsing landforms, and looking at maps--all accessable in just one click. Also, direct linking allows us to customize the zoom level for different types of jurisdictions (e.g., lower zoom for states, higher for large cities, much higher for small towns, etc.) I also compared all the map services and found that Google (as of now) has the best street map coverage and satellite imagery resolution of India. For example, look at how India's states and territories are labelled while China's are not. In Google Maps, all the big Indian cities also have better and more detailed street maps than the other options. There'd be no problem in switching to WikiMapia or some other service if/when their coverage of India trumps Google's. Hope this helps. Saravask 23:40, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
I too would prefer that a commercial organisation be given prominence. Rather have something like this [1] instead. =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:59, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Requested edit
{{editprotected}} Please ensure that all appearances of the term "Division" are linked to Divisions of India and not to division or Division (country subdivision). Thank you. --Russ (talk) 18:41, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
- Are there any that are acutally broken? It looks OK, there aren't very many instances of "division" in the source. Let me know if any are actually broken. — Carl (CBM · talk) 20:02, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
-
I wish I could tell you. There are about 6,500 new links to Division that appeared this past week on Special:Whatlinkshere/Division; however, I can't see that any relevant changes were made to the template during that period nor can I find the offending link in the source myself! --Russ (talk)
-
- Well, maybe I can find it. ;) This edit to the Sandbox version of the template appears to fix the Division link issue without introducing any new problems that I can see. As a technical note, the use of {{{division}}} instead of {{{division|}}} should not change anything because the entire line is inside a {{#if:{{{division|}}} block; therefore, we can assume that {{{division}}} is defined within the block, and there is no need for the pipe that only is used if the parameter is undefined. --Russ (talk) 15:39, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- OK, I see the problem. It's the confusing template expansion semantics. Look at the code in User:CBM/Sandbox, which also links to division (see the bottom of [2]). Notice there is no link at all in the page body (the HTML source shows the page body is completely empty), but nevertheless whatlinkshere shows a link, because text inside false conditionals is still processed. Getting rid of the pipes should do the trick, since [[{{{division}}} division]] is not a valid page name. — Carl (CBM · talk) 16:28, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] html code showing
I am seeing a lot of html code in the info boxes on Indian cities in Firefox, eg "colspan="2" style="color:black; line-height:1.15em; background-color: #D3DAED; font-size:1.30em; text-align:center;" I don't know what to do about it. Could someone with a technical aptitude sort it out as it is making it difficult to read infoboxes of Indian city articles in Firefox.--▓▒░الأهواز ★ Al-Ahwaz░▒▓ 00:55, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

See the infobox for Cavel in Mumbai. For some reason the parameter for civic agency has gone awry. =Nichalp «Talk»= 10:08, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Seal, flags etc
Is there only a seal parameter and nothing else? We should have flag, seal and arms, so all three can be displayed. I’ve added a flag for Rajpipla just now but cannot then add the arms. Bossk-Office 15:21, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- Can you fill out the new fields I've added? They need to be the *official* and *current* arms/seal, not historical ones that no longer are used by the government. If they are historical/unofficial, feel free to add them elsewhere in the article, but not to the infobox. We can proceed from there. Saravask 22:14, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Note to editors of this template: #Ifexist limit
Please read Signpost - Overuse of parser function curtailed and [3]. I checked the limit report for WP:IIJ. It is:
Pre-expand include size: 747445/2048000 bytes Post-expand include size: 183147/2048000 bytes Template argument size: 86438/2048000 bytes #ifexist count: 92/2000
We are very close to reaching the 100 limit. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 23:51, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Categorization bug
If this template is used with state_name=Delhi, the article is placed in Category:Cities and towns in Delhi. That category, however, has been redirected to Category:Cities and towns in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. Can the template be fixed to recategorize those articles? --Russ (talk) 16:23, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
- I have implemented a "dirty fix", but in my opinion, all this categorization should be moved out of the infobox and into the articles for exactly this reason. This template is doing way too much. --TheDJ (talk • contribs) 14:47, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Two expression errors
Could a knowlegable maintainer please investigate the infobox in Omalur - there are expression errors in the elevation and population density, but the usage appears consistant with the documentation on the infobox page. Thanks, 71.198.255.227 (talk) 02:17, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- In English Wikipedia, the decimal separator is the period "." (dot, full stop) and not the comma ",". In the page showed, the entered number was 8,16, but it should have read 8.16. The comma messes up the math expression. This is why numbers need to be entered in a RAW unformatted fashion, i.e. no commas (1126.75 not 1,126.75), no units (8.16 and not 8.16 km²). —MJCdetroit (yak) 03:31, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] "Cities and towns in (State)" categories
Per recent CFD discussion, it's been noted that there were six Indian cities which had coding errors in this template, with the result that instead of getting funnelled into the appropriate "Cities and towns in (State)" category, they were sitting in a malformed category called just Category:Cities and towns in. For a sample of the kinds of errors that caused this, two of them had the state_name field left blank, one had no state_name field at all but was using just state instead, and on the other three the field directly above state name hadn't been closed with a | .
You really shouldn't be using an infobox template to create or apply categories for you, as this often results in unforeseen consequences like this, or inappropriate pages ending up in the categories because people use the template for unintended purposes such as decorating their userpages, etc.
So I'd ask that you guys do one of two things:
- take the category-creating code off this template, and apply the appropriate "Cities and towns in (State)" category directly to each individual city or town article instead,
- if, for some reason, you really, really don't want to do that, then at least monitor Category:Cities and towns in (which will be a redlink, but can still be clicked on to see if anything's showing up in the category) on a regular basis, and fix the infobox on any article that shows up in there.
Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 22:34, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
- Further to the previous comments, see what happen when the state name is linked here? Also take a look at the category listing at the bottom of Puducherry. I realise that the automatic creating of categories is probably a good idea but with no documentation it is not obvious that the category will be created nor that it may cause problems. I think that it should be removed but for now I have added information to Template:Infobox Indian jurisdiction/doc outlining the problems. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 11:20, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Changes to Wikipedia:As of
{{editprotected}}
Following some discussion at WP:ASOF we are trying to move away from the now deprecated "As of..." links in favour of the more subtle {{As of}} template. Could someone please change the template to reflect this? The snippet of code I'm looking to change is [[as of {{{population_as_of|}}}|{{{population_as_of|}}}]] (to {{as of|{{{population_as_of|}}}|alt={{{population_as_of|}}}}} assuming the same overall appearance without the wikilink is desired). If population density is a 5 digit number, then it uses a second line and screws up the other items in the same group. [edit] locator dot bug?
When I edited Vadiveeswaram, I noticed that the locator line in the infobox (latd = 8.10.46 | longd = 77.26.20|) not only puts the locator dot out in the ocean, but also creates a bad coordinate link at the top of the page - following that link to geohack and google maps gets a locator also out in the ocean.
If I could instead add Coordinates: 8°10′46″N 77°26′20″E / 8.17944°N 77.43889°E (coord|8|10|46|N|77|26|20|E|display=title within double curly brackets) it would link correctly through geohack to the right location.

In addition to the official languages, there regional languages in the States, which have no official language status in the respective state.--Neutralpointofyou (talk) 22:05, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
- This is very interesting! There is (or was) a similar feeling over on the English official language clickable map talk page. In Canada, English is an official language, while in Quebec province, Canada, English is not considered an official language (you may note that the Infobox on the Quebec page has a place for "Official languages", and the only one listed is "French"). So I believe the consensus was "English is an official language of Quebec, Canada, however English is not an official language in Quebec, Canada". I am often amazed by the subtleties of word usage.
- Well, I was just passing, saw your assertion above and asked a question. Best of good fortune in all your endeavors!

- You have clearly misunderstood the concept of official languages in a federal set up. In Canada, the province of Quebec declared, that French is the only official language in their state. So no other language can be used to communicate with the Quebecian "provincial officials". But Canada has declared, that their official languages are both, French and English. So anybody, can communicate with Canadian "country officials" by the use of English and/or French. An inhabitant of Quebec is free to use only French with the Canadian "country officials", since French is recognised as an official language of Canada. The difference is of course, that a Quebecian, who would like to work as a Cannada "country official" must know English and vice versa a Vancouverian English speaker needs to learn French. This is how it works in Canada.
- It's slightly different in India. The state governments use their own "provincial official language". But not all provincial languages are recognised by India as a "country official language". This is the difference with Canada, where all provincial languages were made country official languages. The inhabitants of India need to learn only one language, either Hindi or English to work with Indian country officials. So you see, it's a very federal language policy in India to bring the people of all Indian states with their languages under one umbrella with the use of Hindi or English. The most crucial point is, that many languages were denied official language status by States and face extinction. They could only be rescued when they were made offical language of a State or province. Every country faces this issue. Canada too. It's important to distinguish between official language and "language".--Neutralpointofyou (talk) 00:53, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

(out). First, Neutralpointofyou, allow me to apologize. I completely missed your response above. I thought the conversation was over, so I went on to other things without watching this section. And you are correct. I did misunderstand the concept of official languages in a federal set up such as this template should provide. So I hope I have fixed the situation to your satisfaction. I added languages and ethnic groups to this template and, as you can see in the Andhra Pradesh article, I did a little tweaking so that the already entered spoken languages would appear in the infobox. Feel free to edit as you see fit. To see the full capability of the additions, take a look at my Sandbox6a page. This shows the New Delhi infobox with all of the language and ethnic groups additions. The languages in this version of the New Delhi infobox may not be the actual languages and are there just for illustration. I retrieved the ethnic groups from New Delhi#Demographics, so they should be correct. And I have added these to the "live" New Delhi infobox along with the empty language parameters. So again, feel free to add languages and other edits as you see fit.
Please note that the languages can be entered as a short list, or, if the list is long, then collapsible lists can also be used. On my Sandbox6a page, just click the edit link to see how this is done. I've updated the documentation for this template except for the collapsible list option, which I am still working on. Sincerely hope that this is what you said is needed. Let me know if I can be of further help.

[edit] Two small problems
I have checked this in my sandbox and have found at least two items that need work. I am clueless as to how to fix these.
- I have checked all nine skins, and the right end of the [show]/[hide] link(s) near the bottom of the box sticks outside of the Infobox in every skin.
- If you use my sandbox to focus upon the position of the coordinates, then you will see that they might be found just about anywhere near the top, but never inside the Infobox. And in some skins and text sizes, the coordinates are bunched with other text, lines, even with themselves.
What is perplexing for me is that I am familiar with only two display values in the {{Coord}} template, "title" and "inline". But if this Infobox called the Coord template with "display=title", then the coordinates would appear in only two skins, "myskin" and "simple", and yet they do appear in all skins except "nostalgic". On the other hand, if you have set "display=inline", or if you haven't set a display value ("inline" is the default), then the coordinates ought to appear in the Infobox, and the "Coordinates" link would not appear. So this is a big puzzle to me. Hopefully somebody who babies this template can fix these and let me know how it's going?

After working on this template in my sandbox, I have been able to get the coordinates inside the Infobox, as can be seen in the Template:Infobox Indian jurisdiction/sandbox using the Template:Infobox Indian jurisdiction/testcases page. The sandbox version on the left may still need tweaking from an expert, because it is a very simplified version toward the bottom of the code where the "Coordinates" section is found. I'll continue to see what can be done about the [Show]/[Hide] links hanging over the right edge of these templates (see India). This challenge is seen in several templates. Should be fun!

- Please note. If nobody objects within the next day or so, I'll go ahead and edit the coordinates section of this template so that the coordinates actually fall within the various Infoboxes, as shown in the left Infobox on the testcases page.

I was able to add the "type" utility back in to the "coordinates" section this date.
PS. I also restored the edits by Eubulides that were inadvertently lost when I transfered the code from my sandbox.
The [Show]/[Hide] link-overhang problem has a fix, and I have left the following note on the {{editprotected}} talk page of the Collapsible list template:
I have created a sandbox and testcases page for this template to illustrate the [Show]/[Hide] overhang outside the right edges of all the infoboxes that use this template. (See toward the bottom in the "Codes" section.) I'm not sure about other browsers; however, my IE7 shows this overhang in all nine skins. You'll note that the Infobox on the left is actually called from my personal sandbox, which is where I call the sandbox version of this template.
When the width near the top of the code is changed from 100% to 96%, this gives the best rendition of the [Show]/[Hide] link and brings the right end of the link within the edges of the Infoboxes. I'm interested to know how the testcases appear in other browsers. If the appearance of the left-side testcase is okay in other browsers, then I'd like for an admin to change this width to 96%. If the testcase does not look good in Firefox, etc., then perhaps a lesser or greater percentage should be used. At any rate, the width really should be reduced so that the [Show]/[Hide] link does not overhang outside Infoboxes in IE7.

- PS. Here's the sandbox and here are the testcases. Thank you very much!
So hopefully an admin will soon reduce the width in the Collapsible list template.

[edit] Website Address: If 'http' included in website address, it leads to 'http.com' website
For example, see infobox in article Porbandar which I am pasting below...
| Porbandar | |||
|
|
|||
| Coordinates | 21°38′N 69°36′E / 21.63°N 69.6°E | ||
| Country | |||
| State | Gujarat | ||
| District(s) | Porbandar | ||
| Population | 133,083 (2001[update]) | ||
| Official languages | Gujarati · Hindi · English | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Time zone | IST (UTC+5:30) | ||
| Area • Elevation |
• 0 m (0 ft) |
||
|
Codes
|
|||
| Website | www.porbandarcity.info | ||
In above infobox 'http' is included in website address. When I click on it, it leads to website 'http://www.http.com//www.porbandarcity.info' instead of 'http://www.porbandarcity.info'.
And this is not isolated case. It happened in infobox of Kushinagar which I fixed by removing 'http'.
I request template developer to fix the bug. Rāmā (talk) 17:06, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hiya, Rāmā! There is no bug in the template. The documentation could use a little more clarity, though. Down in the table on the .doc page, it is shown that the "http://" is not to be used. For example, the editor who added the website to this Porbandar Infobox should have only added "www.porbandarcity.info", or even just "porbandarcity.info", as I have done to the Infobox you've put on this talk page. The link will work that way. I will add a clarifying note to the Guidelines section of the .doc page. At least future editors will probably understand not to use the "http://" when they add a website. For the existing pages that have the problem you describe, just find all that you can and fix them (remove the "http://" if it is in the Infobox). I'll do what I can to help you do this.

- PS. If you check "What links here" on this template page, you see that perhaps hundreds of articles like Porbandar link here. So it seems easier just to change the template. However, I've checked, and there are many pages where the website has been entered correctly, Delhi, New Delhi and Kolkata just to name a few. So it is likely that more pages were done correctly than were done incorrectly.
- PPS. I have checked the first ten on the "What links here" list. Only 3 out of 10 show a website, and all 3 have been entered correctly.
[edit] Disembodied }}
I happened to notice that the page on Manipur leads off with a pair of disconnected braces }} which likely came vestigially from the template.
This page also has the braces }} appearing in isolation in a couple of spots.
