The purpose of this template is to provide consistent links to Nintendo's official US website. Over the years Nintendo has changed the URL format they used several times (while keeping the game ID's the same), so I have created this template to effect site wide changes if (and when) they change it again. I got the idea from Template:imdb title.~ Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 04:36, 2005 July 21 (UTC)

No need for archive.org[edit]

Nintendo actually has their old games archived on a subdomain: register.nintendo.com. See http://register.nintendo.com/gamemini?gameid=m-Game-0000-249 for the entry for Super Mario 64. The gamelist also works, here: http://register.nintendo.com/gamelist. --Geopgeop (T) 19:31, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

A lot of those don't work. I've integraged both into the template. Taric25 (talk) 22:34, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Dead links[edit]

Leaving aside the question of whether a web.archive.org link is really the best use of ==External links== from the general reader's perspective, is there any reason that we're providing clickable dead links through this template? They're deprecated by the external links guideline. WhatamIdoing (talk) 23:19, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

This was only meant as a temporary solution until the links could be examined individually. Though, it seems that the register.nintendo.com links are dead, and most of the archive.org links don't work, so it would probably be best to remove this template en-masse from all transcluded pages. Or nom it for deletion again. --- RockMFR 03:59, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
I'm leaning towards a WP:TFD, myself. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? WhatamIdoing (talk) 03:18, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
