Looking for the right copyright tag?[edit]

See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for a full list of tags available. The following are applicable within the United States.

  • {{PD-USGov-money}}—for images of the official currency of the United States. These are in the public domain. (See also {{Non-free currency}} and {{ir-Money}}.)
  • {{PD-art-US}}—for images of works of art published in the United States prior to 1923.
  • {{PD-US}}—for copyright-expired works in the U.S. (mainly those published pre-1923). Also for works not eligible for copyright under U.S. law. (May be preferable in some cases vs. {{PD-old}} for US-originating works.)
  • {{PD-Pre1978}} — for works published in the United States prior to 1978 without explicit notice of "copyright, year, owner" or "©" attached.
  • {{PD-US-patent}}—for media from descriptions of U.S. patents. These are in the public domain, though the actual inventions depicted might be encumbered by patents. [1] This does not prevent us from describing them, since we are not trying to construct or sell the inventions.
  • {{PD-CAGov}} - for works created by the State of California.
  • {{PD-FLGov}} – for works created by the Government of the U.S. state Florida that are ineligible for copyright.
  • {{PD-NJGov}} – for works created by the Government of the U.S. state New Jersey that have been released "without obligation" to the State.
  • {{PD-MGS}} – for maps and reports created by the Minnesota Geological Survey and released to the public domain; attribution is requested.
  • {{PD-WSRC}} - for images created by the Washington State Redistricting Commission and released to the public domain; attribution is requested.
  • {{Non-free in US}}—for non-U.S. works that are in dispute of their copyrights of the United States

U.S. federal government works[edit]

Note. There is an upload form for items "from a U.S. federal government source." It is linked from Wikipedia:Upload. If you use one of these tags there don't forget the {{double curly brackets}} on each end of the tag!

add category[edit]

{{editprotected}} Could an admin please add Navy to this template? Thanks. bahamut0013 12:49, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Edit request[edit]

Could an admin that sees this change it from image to file, since audio files from the Navy are also used eg. National Anthems: File:United States Navy Band - O Canada is an example of such an audio file. —Ancient ApparitionChampagne? • 6:02pm • 07:02, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

The template adds pages to Category:United States military images, so it's not intended for sound files. We could make a new template for them though. Feezo (send a signal | watch the sky) 07:38, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
Might be easier just to rename it to Category:United States military files and use the same template as User:Ancapp suggests. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:21, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
