Hearts / Heart of Midlothian and Hibs / Hibernian[edit]

I think 'Heart of Midlothian' and 'Hibernian' should be used as they ARE they official names of the clubs. --Antz 19:46, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No-one's denying that; however, the full names are seldom used by the public. Heart of Midlothian is invariably shortened to Hearts and Hibernian to Hibs. I think they're more useful - and far less wordy - in their shortened, common form. Erath 20:04, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

your point is well put however this is an encyclopaedia. Could we please stick to the facts. Hibernian and Heart of Midlothian is proper. Palx 23:50, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

On the contrary, I'm offering a suggestion that's far more likely to be useful in an encyclopedic sense. The object of the template is to provide the information as a quick-reference - the articles themselves can go into the naming detail. Erath 09:21, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

can't argue with that. Hibs and Hearts it is thenPalx 09:41, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Use of fair use images[edit]

As clubs' logos are copyrighted with no free licence, their use in Wikipedia is subject to the Fair use policy. The relevant guideline states:

9. Fair use images should only be used in the article namespace. They should never be used on templates (including stub templates and navigation boxes) or on user pages.

Therefore I've removed the logos from this template. Please do not replace them. Qwghlm 13:41, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Change to SPL seasons[edit]

Rather than link to football in every Scottish division for each season, I've created pages for 2006/07 and 2005/06 for the SPL. Could others make similar pages for previous seasons? Table data here. Fedgin 14:57, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested change[edit]

Can I suggest that this template be broken into to separate templates? Since this template links to all the top-flight season articles I would suggest that it be changed to just include that, following examples of the templates for Allsvenskan seasons (Sweden) and Tippeligaen seasons (Norway). Then creating a separate new template for the Scottish Premier League which would include the former teams, SPL league seasons (1998 to 2013) and all the related pages such as List of Scottish Premier League stadiums (included at the bottom of the existing template). Cal Umbra 09:55, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I went ahead and made the changes as there were no objections. See templates: Template:Scottish top division football seasons and Template:Scottish Premier League. Cal Umbra 15:46, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Agreed: Nothing is gained by the unnecessary longer name on the template. IJA (talk) 13:25, 15 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support - yep, template name should match the article name. GiantSnowman 18:38, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
