Related series[edit]

Upon closer inspection, I believe the related series section in this template should include shows which are directly related to the Surreal Life. This relationship would be either as a direct spin-off (e.g., My Fair Brady and Strange Love) or staring the same characters (e.g., The Salt-N-Pepa Show). I do not feel this list should be a complete list of every Celebreality show, as there is already a template for Celebreality series. If you disagree, we can always get a WP:Third opinion. Thanks! No. This template is for series that have their roots from The Surreal Life. Despite Sandy Denton's participation on The Surreal Life, The Salt N Pepa Show was not sprung from it. Neither is Two Corey's, or the Janice Dickinson Show. Again, this template (which I created) is for series that are have heredity from the Surreal Life. - The Real One Returns 17:28, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
I disagree. The list of shows spawned by The Surreal Life is the list of "Celebreality shows" as described in the VH1 article, and there is already a {{Celebreality}} template. The label being assigned here is "related series", which would be any (reality) series directly related. Since you appear to have violated 3RR (?), hopefully we can discuss it here prevent a further edit war. By the way, just because you created a template, does not mean you own it. Thanks! What is the benefit of having the list of related shows on this template to start with? From what I can see, this template is mostly used on the articles of people who have appeared on the show. As a reader, I can see the benefit of easily getting to the articles about others from the show, but it seems to me that related shows is something I would go to the Surreal Life page itself for, where there is currently a nice, formatted list of spin-off shows. Personally, though, I might even go a step further and break the cast list up by season. --Interestingly average (talk) 20:35, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Good suggestion: (1) Split the cast list into a cast list for each season, as this would make it very helpful to determine who was on each season and (2) remove the related series section. If this is what you are suggesting, then I completely agree (see example). Thanks for the outside opinion. Plastikspork (talk) 23:16, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

The Surreal Life series is a franchise.

The Surreal Life --> Strange Love --> Flavor of Love --> I Love New York --> Charm School --> I Love Money --> Real Chance of Love.

All of these shows trace back to The Surreal Life, are produced by the same production team, and therefore should be referenced on this template. The same way templates for {{All in the Family}} and {{Law & Order}} also note the spinoff/link series that sprung up later as a result of the base show. DMWN (talk) 01:10, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

I agree. But in that case, I would say one should start a template called '51 Minds' as that is the name of Mark Cronin's and Cris Abrego's production company. Thanks! Plastikspork (talk) 03:24, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Template not needed[edit]

This template is missing the mark. Generally a template like this is used to bring together articles that are closely related. For example, all the books written by Stephen King. It makes sense for "The Stand" to have a Stephen King template because of that tight relationship. For the actors on this show, it was only one small part in their lives and will only warrant a minor mention on their wiki page. Putting this template on all their pages gives undue weight and is a little confusing. For example, consider Trishelle Cannatella. There is only a mention of this show in a list of her television appearances. Keeping an easily navigatable collection of all the actors is better managed and more relevant with an infobox on The Surreal Life wiki page. Agentchuck (talk) 18:25, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

You can always nominate it at WP:TFD? Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:14, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
