Creation[edit]

For the record, this template was based on what I did with MortalKombatProject. Nice, simple, and encourages people to either help maintain the article or join the project. EVula 15:22, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

***[edit]

Any idea how we can fix how this operates on a page like Talk:*** (check it out to see what I mean). Would adding a well placed nowiki element do it? (John User:Jwy talk) 21:05, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Fixed. -- JHunterJ (talk) 11:21, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Nope. Check the anchor rendering in on the TALK page. (John User:Jwy talk) 21:23, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Oh, that (this) template. Silly me. Fixed too. -- JHunterJ (talk) 22:30, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
I thought I had tried that (the page-title thing) before adding my "Nope" comment above. Must have typoed as it didn't preview right. Thx for that. this. (John User:Jwy talk) 23:17, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Class rating[edit]

This template currently includes an optional "class-rating". Is this being used anywhere, or can we remove it (there will never be a stub-rated or a Featured Disambig page...) to stop any confusion?

See also, the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Disambiguation#Tagging of Project Banner at Talk pages. Thanks. -- Quiddity (talk) 19:14, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Link to project[edit]

editprotected The text “the project page” in this template should be made a link to Wikipedia:WikiProject Disambiguation. I can't make the change for this template is full protected (why?). Some admin please make it. – b_jonas 20:31, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Echoing the above request, can an admin alter the text for the MAIN_TEXT parameter? There is currently no link to the relevant project, and the text mislabels disambiguation pages as articles. I prefer the previous wording for MAIN_TEXT:

This page is part of WikiProject Disambiguation, an attempt to structure and organize all disambiguation pages on Wikipedia. If you wish to help, you can [SERVER{{localurl:{PAGENAME}|action=edit}} edit the page] attached to this talk page, or visit the project page, where you can join the project and/or contribute to the discussion.

Wording[edit]

Isn't

"... an attempt to structure and organize all ..."

a little downbeat, even if the untagged backlog were known to be growing? How about -- since WP is always WiP --

"... an ongoing effort ..."

?--Jerzyt 06:00, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Pointless?[edit]

What is the purpose of this tag? All disambiguation pages have various disambig templates already and are in Category:Disambiguation pages --Apoc2400 (talk) 18:49, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Edit Req[edit]

editprotected

Could the sandbox version be copied over to live. It implements the substcheck & listas of WPBannerMeta. Thanks. -- WOSlinker (talk) 18:46, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Is the removal of nested intentional? -- JHunterJ (talk) 19:33, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Yes, nested has no longer been needed since changes were made to WikiProjectBannerShell in November 2008. -- WOSlinker (talk) 19:42, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Yes check.svg Done with this edit. -- JHunterJ (talk) 22:12, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Error[edit]

editprotected In this template, when it is used on a template's talk page (see Template talk:Disambig), when it says to edit the attached page, it links to an article (i.e. it doesn't including the Template: namespace at the beginning of the link). Could this be fixed? Logan | Talk 22:44, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Class= (again)[edit]

One good reason for using the "|class=" parameter is to set it to "|class=Dab". Without this, the utility to display an assessment of an article's quality as part of the page header for each article cannot recognise dab pages . (The utility can be enabled by going to my preferences and selecting the Gadget tab). Can we have "|class=" back, please -Arb. (talk) 19:57, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

The class parameter would be completely redundant in this banner, and I can't support adding it just to benefit an unrelated gadget. What you really need is a change in the behavior of the gadget itself. The gadget already recognises SIA (see Khoro (rural locality)); what it needs is a change to make it recognise Disambig. That's something you should take up with whoever created or maintains the gadget, though. PC78 (talk) 00:38, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
You could always hard-code |class=Disambig in the template. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:18, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
Sure, that at least would remove the need for a bot run to add the parameter to pages using this banner. But as I see it, the problem here lies with the gadget, so a solution should ideally be found there. PC78 (talk) 12:25, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
The gadget already recognizes disambig, so I don't see what the problem is here. Gary King (talk) 16:00, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
It would definitely be redundant. Disambiguation pages actually work best for the script as they are now: Since it can identify a page from the disambiguation template alone, there's no need to waste resources requesting and parsing the talk page in those cases; likewise for set index articles, redirects, and articles with no talk page. (The HTTP request for the talk page accounts for most of the time the script takes to run.) If it doesn't seem to be recognizing a particular disambiguation page, it's either a bug or a browser issue. Pyrospirit (talk · contribs) 16:15, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
As far as I can tell the gadget isn't working properly. At Atlas (disambiguation) (for example) I'm getting "An unassessed article from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". That's with both Firefox 3.5 and IE7, so I'm still inclined to think that there's something wrong with the gadget. PC78 (talk) 22:43, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
It works fine for me at that page. Firefox 3.5, with the monobook.js version of the script. Gary King (talk) 22:47, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
Do you mean you have the script enabled in your /monobook.js page rather than in "my preferences"? Perhaps that would explain why I'm having this problem and you're not, but I don't know enough about scripts to say. PC78 (talk) 23:08, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
This edit needs to be copied over to the gadget version for disambiguation pages to be detected correctly. Gary King (talk) 23:13, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Suggestion withdrawn: It is clearly the wrong way to deal with what turns out to be a long standing bug in the gadget. -Arb. (talk) 12:17, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Cleanup Parameter[edit]

Hi all, what thoughts do you have about adding a cleanup parameter to this project banner? "Cleanup=yes", for example, would add the page to Category:Disambiguation pages needing cleanup, as well as display some sort of message box, under the banner, such as this one:

Let me know what you think. Cheers, Arbitrarily0 (talk) 13:19, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

We already have the disambig vs disambig-cleanup pair of templates, for that. Duplicating it here would be confusing/redundant. -- Quiddity (talk) 19:15, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I was unaware of disambig-cleanup. Still, might it be a replacement for disambig-cleanup? It unclutters the disambiguation page, while gives more function to this template. Also, it seems like Category:Disambiguation pages in need of cleanup is currently underused. It would be similar to WikiProject Biography's "attention" parameter. Your thoughts? Arbitrarily0 (talk) 21:32, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
disambig-cleanup is widely used by this project's participants, and Category:Disambiguation pages in need of cleanup is actively patrolled - It varies in size from 30 entries to 200 entries, in any given month. It's had a backlog tag added and removed a few times this year [1].
Your idea/intent was good, but we already have a workflow that encompasses cleanup, with the existing templates. :)
Perhaps instead, we should make the line at Template:Disambig/doc that mentions the existing cleanup template, more noticeable? Or anywhere else you might have looked-but-not-found the existing template? -- Quiddity (talk) 00:49, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

It would be better to add a parameter to the existing banner rather than have a new template, i.e. which would produce:

WikiProject Disambiguation
WikiProject icon This template is within the scope of WikiProject Disambiguation, an attempt to structure and organize all disambiguation pages on Wikipedia. If you wish to help, you can edit the page attached to this talk page, or visit the project page, where you can join the project and/or contribute to the discussion.

But I agree that such a feature would be redundant to the existing disambig-cleanup template. I don't really see the point in either duplicating or replacing it. PC78 (talk) 22:43, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Span=plainlinks[edit]

editprotected Please add <span class=plainlinks> before
[{{fullurl:{SUBJECTPAGENAME}|action=edit}} edit the page]
and </span> after. I don't like that arrow much...SWFlash

Edit request 07 August 2011[edit]

There is a version in the sandbox that would add the main cat for the tagged talk pgs of the project, and remove the unneeded "key" for the category parameter. The reason I'm requesting the main cat option is to be able to compare the pgs in Category:All disambiguation pages with the talk pgs in Category:WikiProject Disambiguation pages. Thanks, --Funandtrvl (talk) 17:53, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
