Temporal war

A "Temporal war" or "Time war" is a fictional conflict that takes place in multiple time periods, instigated by factions in the future who then travel back and alter history to their own ends; an example of this would be Albert Einstein going back in time to stop Hitler from starting the Second World War as depicted in the computer game Red Alert.
The term might refer to any of the following fictional conflicts:
- The Temporal Cold War of the Star Trek universe
- The Time War of the Doctor Who universe
- The events of The Big Time by Fritz Leiber
- The Timesplitters series of video games.
- The events described in the novel Cowl by Neal Asher
- The conflict in the novel Downtiming the Night Side by Jack L. Chalker
- The conflict between mankind and machines in the Terminator movies.
