[edit] Career
[edit] Barranquilla FC
He began his career in Barranquilla Football Club in 2006, Atletico Junior's second division team in Colombia, scoring several goals in 28 appearances which helped him being called up to Atletico Junior main squad, he was one of the club most promising young player.
[edit] Atlético Junior
In his first years with the main squad, Teofilo found it difficult to break into the starting eleven, since he was a young and without much experience. He managed to score his first goal on September 2, 2007 in a match against Once Caldas. During Copa Mustang in 2008 he won a spot on the starting eleven and managed to score 11 goals during his first season as a starter for Atletico Junior, reaching third place in the scoring charts, just behind Freddy Montero and Carlos Quintero and tying Adrian Ramos and Milton Rodriguez. During Copa Mustang I 2009 he was in outstanding form, scoring a total of 16 goals, becoming the Golden Boot of the tournament. During the playoffs he managed to scored six goals in two games, his first two hat-tricks (three against Cúcuta Deportivo and three against Envigado FC). During Copa Mustang Teofilo ended 2009 with 14 goals just behind Jackson Martinez who was the tournament top scorer with 18 goals. Teofilo ended his career in Atletico Junior with a total of 79 games and 42 goals.
[edit] Trabzonspor
On January 13, 2010 Junior directives reached an agreement with the Turkish club Trabzonspor. Trabzonspor, represented by its chairman Sadri Sener, made an offer of 3 million dollars and bought the rights of the player. So Teofilo fulfilled his dream of playing in Europe after several failed attempts to be transferred abroad. Teófilo arrival to Turkey is preceded with a good reputation as a lethal striker. The striker scored 14 goals in 2009 and at the end of the competition was the top scorer with 16. Early in 2010 he was named by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics as the fourth world First Division top scorer of 2009. Teo managed to score 30 goals during the 2009 season's tying Samuel Eto'o and passed by the Uruguayan Diego Forlán with 31 and Marc Janko who scored a total of 39 goals. During his first semester in Turkey he found it difficult to adapt to a new country and style of play, which led him not being a regular on the starting eleven, he wasn't able to score any goals.
Teofilo has shown great form with the star of his second season(2010–2011) in Turkey, scoring a Hat-Trick against Bursaspor during his team victory 3–0 on the Turkish Super Cup, which helped his team lift the trophy, also led him to earn the most valuable player award of the final. Then after just a few days he managed to score 2 more goals during Trabzonspor debut on the Süper Lig against Ankaragücü, and then scored another 2 goals against Sivasspor. Also he scored a goal during Trabzonspor's defeat against Liverpool in the UEFA Cup.
[edit] Racing Club
Teofilo moved to his country without permission of Trabzonspor or his manager claiming to have some health problems. After check-ups, doctors did not find any health problems. Teofilo did not return from Colombia and there were rumors about an interest of Liverpool F.C. about him. Later on, on February 3, 2011, Trabzonspor accepted a bid from Racing Club of Argentina. It will be the first time that Teofilo will participate as striker in the Argentine Primera División.
[edit] Colombia National Football Team
Teofilo has been summoned three times to the Colombia national football team, scoring on his debut against El Salvador during a match played in Houston that of which the Colombia won 2–1. In its third call to the Colombia national football team he made his debut in a qualifying game for the FIFA 2010 World Cup, playing against the Ecuadorian national team in the city of Medellín, in a match that the Colombia won 2–0, scoring the second goal. Days later he was a starter in a match against the Uruguay at the Estadio Centenario, Teófilo was expelled from the game during the second half leaving the national team down to ten men.
