Moran was born in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Lawrence University in 1982.

[edit] Career as Correspondent
He worked as a correspondent and anchor for Court TV, where he was recognized for his expertise in covering the Lyle and Erik Menendez murder trial in Los Angeles in 1993. Moran joined ABC News in 1997.
After having served as the primary correspondent assigned to the U.S. Supreme Court from 1998 to 1999,[2] he served as ABC News' Chief White House Correspondent from September 1999 to November 2005, covering both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush when they each served as president. Prior to his White House assignment, Moran covered Vice President Al Gore's presidential campaign. He received the Lucia R. Briggs Distinguished Achievement Award in 2003.
[edit] Nightline (co-anchor)
Before becoming co-anchor of Nightline, Moran had been the anchor of World News Tonight Sunday from 2004 to 2005. Along with Cynthia McFadden and Martin Bashir, Moran became one of the three full-time anchors of Nightline following Ted Koppel's last broadcast in November 2005. He often anchors World News and other ABC News broadcasts.

In September 2009, Moran used the social networking service Twitter to publicly share an off-the-record portion of an interview with President Barack Obama[3] and criticize him for not being "presidential."[4] The interview was being conducted by another journalist, and Moran wrote that the President had called Kanye West a "jackass" for his behavior during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. ABC News apologized for releasing the portion of the interview.[5]
