"The Crimson" is the third single from Atreyu's second full-length album, The Curse.

The song explores vocalist Alex Varkatzas's vampiric fascination. Many of Atreyu's songs discuss vampiric aspects, which has been reported to occur because Alex Varkatzas is a fan of Anne Rice novels, which mainly deal with vampires.[citation needed] The line "to become what I became" is a direct quote from the film/book Interview with the Vampire. He also talks about Robert Smith, lead singer of the English rock band The Cure, due to personal experience Alex felt when he heard the song "Boys Don't Cry."
