[edit] History

Original logo used until 2010
Second logo used by the Network as The Fight Network from 2010 to 2011

Fight Network, founded by Mike R. Garrow, was granted approval for operation by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) in January 2004.[1] The channel was granted approval under the name TFN - The Fight Network, however, it launched on September 22, 2005 as The Fight Network, commonly abbreviated as TFN. It was originally owned by BlackOut Communications; however, as of 2011, after several organizational restructurings, Fight Network is currently owned and operated by Fight Media Inc.

In April 2011, the channel was rebranded by introducing a new logo, on-air identity, and a name change, dropping the word "The" from its title to simply Fight Network.[2]

Fight Network is available nationwide on numerous cable and satellite providers,[3] including Rogers, Shaw and Sasktel. On the web, Fight Network provides news, features, exclusive videos and programming updates via its website at TheFightNetwork.com, on YouTube, in addition to other social networking platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Additionally, Fight Network is a web partner of FoxSports.com, which regularly features exclusive FN editorial and video content, including previews of all major UFC cards. Fight Network also distributes content to mobile providers across Canada through QuickPlay.[4] In 2009, Fight Network teamed up with Mobile Fringe to launch an iPhone application, which serves as a portal for news coverage, programming updates and contest giveaways.[5][6]

[edit] International expansion

FN's first international agreement was with American IPTV provider, Backspace. FN launched on their system in the United States in 2007;[7] however, after several months, Backspace removed FN from their systems. It is currently unknown what the reason for its departure from Backspace's system is.

In keeping with their plans to expand internationally, FN opened a South American office in Ecuador to continue their planned global expansion in that region.[8] However, as of April 2011, FN has not commenced operations in South America. In 2008, FN purchased TWC Fight! based in the U.K. and subsequently rebranded the network as The Fight Network UK.[9] The U.K.-based network was later shut down December 1, 2008.
