[edit] History
The institute commenced operations in 2002 with a unique[3] branch in India, Communication and Computer Engineering(CCE), in a temporary campus in Jaipur. Today, the institute operates out of its state-of-the-art modern campus, about 10 kms from the Jaipur-Agra Highway and 20 kms from the heart of Jaipur City. The institute offers the following five areas of specialization (also known as disciplines):
- Communication and Computer Engineering (CCE)
- Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE)
- Computer Science Engineering (CSE)
- Engineering Physics (EP)
- Mathematics and IT (MIT)
The Bachelors program is of four years. The first batch of 29 UG students graduated in 2007.
In its more than nine years of operation, The LNM IIT has developed an infrastructure including on-campus housing, hostels for boys and girls, sports facilities, an open-air theater, lecture halls, labs, and LAN connectivity.
[edit] Expansion
During a dinner hosted for chief minister Ashok Gehlot[4], steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal discussed plans to expand his Jaipur-based Laxmi Niwas Mittal Institute of Information Technology (LNMIIT). It is considered among the top 10 IT-schools and top 25 engineering colleges in India. As a deemed university, The LNMIIT was jointly set up by the state government and the Lakshmi and Usha Mittal Foundation, as an autonomous non-profit organisation. Mittal was also the part of the meeting where the delegation discussed the proposed 2012 Jaipur convention for NRIs from the state. The London chapter of the foundation has volunteered to co-ordinate with NRIs across Europe for the 2012 convention. [5] [6]
[edit] Admission and courses
[edit] Undergraduate(UG) Program
Students who appear in either the AIEEE or the Joint Entrance Exam(JEE) conducted by the IITs (IIT-JEE) are eligible to apply for admission to the LNMIIT. The LNMIIT will consider the AIEEE All India Rank as well as the performance in IIT-JEE to offer admissions to the candidates.
Apart from this general selection criteria, LNMIIT offers direct admission to boys within top 10 ranks and girls within top 20 ranks in senior secondary exam of 12th class conducted by the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education. Only those students who have studied Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English in 12th class will be considered for admission through this route.[7]
A limited number of scholarships are available, based on merit.
The LNMIIT has a very liberal policy with respect to the courses a student can do during his or her undergraduate education. From 2011 students are assured to be allotted one of the first two branch of their filled choices. Students are allowed to change their branches after completing their first year of undergraduate program. This provision is available to every student.

The institute offers the following postgraduate degrees:
- M.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE); Computer Science Engineering (CSE); and, Communication and Computer Engineering (CCE)
