The Mall is a shopping mall located along Jalan Putra in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is situated across the street from the Putra World Trade Centre and the Pan Pacific Hotel. The complex was built by Metroplex Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (MHSB)[1] and opened in 1987 by Mahathir bin Mohamad, the Prime Minister. At the time The Mall was the largest shopping centre in Malaysia and was built to attract more shoppers from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur [2].
The Mall has many specialised outlets with a variety of items such as souvenirs, clothing and antiques.
The Sunway Group had acquired the mall in March 2011 and had since took over the operations of the complex effective 1 July 2011. The complex was renamed as "Sunway Putra Mall".

[edit] History
The Mall was built at a cost of RM189 million and its launch was marked by a light show.[3]. The shopping centre was launched by Mahathir bin Mohamad, who personally buried a time capsule that will be unearthed in 100 year on 2087. The capsule contains a message written by Mahathir and is addressed to the citizens of the future.[4].
The Legend Hotel was built as extension to The Mall on 1993 and completed in 1996. In 1996, Yaohan departmental store was changed into Aktif Lifestyle and in 2004 the store was bought over by Parkson Grand. At the ground floor there is a food court named Medan Hang Tuah.
