- the wealthy and technologically advanced nations of the world, as contrasted with the nations comprising the South (see North-South divide)
- the northern part of a particular country or geographical region, or a region of places characteristic of the northern part, including the following:

- (in Canada) Northern Canada, comprised by the three territories
- (in Italy) Northern Italy, the seven regions comprising the most developed portion of the country
- (in the United Kingdom) either of the following:
- Northern England, situated roughly between Scotland and the River Trent
- an alternative term for Northern Ireland
- (in the United States) the Northern United States, as defined by the Census Bureau or the historical division from the Civil War
- the Nordic countries, via original etymology
- A band from Stockholm, Sweden.
