"The Past Recedes" is a song by John Frusciante, formerly of Red Hot Chili Peppers. The song is from Frusciante's 2005 solo album Curtains and had a video filmed in late 2004.
This song, along with the rest of the album was recorded at his Hollywood Hills home. His home is seen in the music video to this song. The upright bass is played by Ken Wild. The solo in the recording is played on his 12 string acoustic in the authentic version. However in the music video the filmmakers did not want him to change guitars in the middle. The time signature of the song is different from a regular straight 4/4 note feel. Time signatures alternate between 7/8 and 4/4.
