[edit] History

Mark Maclaine started as a bassist in London before eventually becoming interested in the recording process. After a few years of working as a music producer he began writing his own music under the name: "The Silence". In April 2001 he started Dented Records with two members of successful UK Hip-Hop group Foreign Beggars.

In 2002 Maclaine went on to form Post Trip Hop band Second Person with singer/pianist Julia Johnson. The pair completed work on writing the music for the free-skiing trilogy 'Snow's in the House' [3] and released their debut album in October 2004 [4].

The pair went on to write the music for British feature film City Rats (starring Danny Dyer, Tamer Hassan, MyAnna Buring, Susan Lynch and Kenny Dougherty), which was released in cinemas early 2009 and on DVD on 27 April [5] [6]. Added to his music work he also took on the role of sound director for the film [7].

In 2008 he finished producing an album in New York with New Zealand rapper Maitreya under the name The Silence. Two tracks from this album were nominated for the APRA Silver Scroll Award for songwriting in New Zealand. [8]

Maclaine continues to produce music and videos for other artists. In 2010 he directed a music video for the song 'Questions In My Mind' by Portuguese singer Ana Free in New York City [9] [10]. The pair worked together on her follow up single 'Playgrounds and Kisses' which was filmed in the singer's home town of Lisbon, Portugal [11].

His father is Hollywood 2nd Unit Director/AD Richard MacLaine (Zulu Dawn) and his mother, photographer Christiane Weston-Baker. His maternal grandmother is Princess Friederieke Marie Windisch-Graetz. He is a descendant of Sophie, Princess Palatine of the Rhine.
