The Superpowers are a Boston-based afrobeat band. They were formed in 2005 under the name "The Boston Afrobeat Society", initially as a Fela Kuti cover band. They describe themselves as an 11 member, 21st century dance band.[1].
The band won a Boston Music Award in 2006 for Most Outstanding World Music Act and were voted the Best World Act 2007 by the Boston Phoenix.
