[edit] Plot
The story concerns a cruel, domineering man (Christopher Lee) who returns to his castle home and resumes his sado-masochistic relationship with his sister-in-law (Daliah Lavi) whom he vigorously flogs. Soon he is murdered, but his ghost returns and the beatings continue. [1]
[edit] Production
All of Christopher Lee's dialog was dubbed by another actor. However, Lee has been on record for some time with the very willing offer to perform a re-dubbing himself, should an opportunity ever present itself.
[edit] Critics
Film critic Leonard Maltin cites this film as "Perhaps horror maestro Bava's best film, moody, beautiful and deceptively simple."
[edit] Release
Alternate titles include The Way of the Body and Son of Satan. A shorter version entitled What!? was released in the United States.[2]
