TheraBreath, an oral hygiene product line, is a manufacturer of a wide range of toothpastes, toothbrushes, and other oral care items. The product line was introduced in 1994 and currently has sales in 58 countries. The formula used in the TheraBreath product line is based on the research of Doctor Harold Katz, a medical professional with credentials in both dentistry and microbiology. [1] TheraBreath has been featured on TV shows including Good Morning America, CBS Early Show, The View, The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet where Dr. Katz measures bad breath with a device[clarification needed] and discusses how to deal with issues like halitosis, bad breath, dry mouth, and taste disorders. TheraBreath claims that volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) are at the root of these problems. [2][3][4][5][6][self-published source?]

[edit] Advertising

TheraBreath's international advertising campaign features controversial commercials with people eating raw onions, cigarette butts from ash trays, coffee grounds and raw fish. Each commercial ends in the slogan "effortlessly cleaning out that dirty mouth of yours, so no one will ever know how bad your breath really was." [7][self-published source?]

[edit] Science

The active principle in TheraBreath is stabilized chlorine dioxide, a powerful and rapid oxidizing agent acting as a selective oxidizer. Chlorine dioxide essentially instantaneously destroys volatile sulfur compounds that are the main cause of bad breath, but it reacts more slowly in killing microbes in the oral cavity.[citation needed]
