Thornleigh railway station is a station on Sydney's CityRail network servicing the suburb of Thornleigh in Sydney's Upper North Shore. Opening in 1886[1], this station lies on the Northern Line leading from Berowra in the north through to North Sydney station via Strathfield and Central. This station has three platforms- two in the 'Up' direction (platforms 1 and 2) and one in the 'Down' direction (platform 3); however platform 1 is rarely used, as passenger trains rarely use the 'Up and Down Relief lines' which start at Thornleigh. The local control panel was closed on 12 November 2006, with control transferred to Strathfield Signal Box. Control of Thornleigh was again transferred to the new Homebush Signal Box in October 2008.[2].
