This is the timeline of the North African Campaign.

1940

• June 11:
  • Italy declares war on the Allies.
  • The Royal Air Force bombs airfields and petrol dumps in Italian East Africa and Libya.
  • British armoured cars cross into Libya from Egypt and destroy several Italian trucks near Fort Capuzzo.
  • Italy bombs Aden and Port Sudan.
• June 12: RAF forces bomb Tobruk.
• June 13: British forces capture Fort Capuzzo and La Maddalena. They destroy the guns and defenses before withdrawing back to Egypt.
• June 14: Italians bomb Alexandria.
• June 28: Marshal Italo Balbo, Governor-General of Libya, was shot down by friendly anti-aircraft fire.
• July 1: Marshal Rodolfo Graziani replaces the deceased Balbo.
• July 4:
  • Italy again bombs Alexandria.
  • Italy captures the British outposts of Kassala and Gallabat.
• July 13: Italy attacks the British garrison at Moyale.
• July 25: Italy bombs the British naval base at Alexandria and the base at Haifa.
• August 2: Reports of Italy massing troops near Libyan border.
• August 4: Italy invades British Somaliland, with about 25,000 troops it pushes the British back to Berbera.
• August 5: Italian airforce raids Aden, Berbera, Burao and Zeila. Italy captures Zeila.
• August 6: Italy reaches Odweina. Conflict against the British at Hargeisa and Tug Argan.
