Anthony Earle Peter "Tony" Butler (born 13 February 1957, Shepherd's Bush, London, England), is a rock bassist, best known for his lengthy work with the Scottish rock band Big Country. He has also worked with On the Air, The Pretenders, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend, among others.[1]
In 2007, to celebrate 25 years of Big Country, he reunited with founder members Bruce Watson and Mark Brzezicki to embark on a tour of the UK. He became lead vocalist for the first time, taking over from the deceased Stuart Adamson.
As of 2011, he is working as a music teacher at Petroc College and the Livewire Youth Music Project in Cornwall. In June 2011, he was temporarily dismissed from his post at Petroc after an allegation that he had a liaison with an adult student; the allegation came from a third party. Shortly afterwards, Butler was reinstated after appealing successfully.[2][3]
