Tony Mendez was born in Cuba in 1945.
Mendez has a long and varied entertainment background. Mendez performed briefly with the Houston Ballet and was an apprentice with the Harkness Ballet. He appeared often in Broadway Theatre, in shows including "Irene", "Pippin" and "Dancin".[1]
He is currently employed by the Late Show with David Letterman as a Cue Card Boy and also hosts a highly rated Internet show called the Tony Mendez Show.[2]
Mendez describes his relationship with Letterman as follows:
"I'm such good friends with him. I'm two years older, and we're very much alike because we're kids at heart. He's very impish. Of course, he's much more intelligent than I am, but the two of us like pranks and I talk to him like he's my cousin."[3]
That closeness is apparent on many of the shows where both Tony and David are present.[4] Originally an audio show, the Tony Mendez Show is now produced with a high level of technical skills.
