- Pornographic magazines, which are kept on the top shelf in newsagents, out of the reach of children (this expression is mainly used in British English)
- Liquor of higher quality (mainly referring to Whisky), which is kept on the top shelves in a store, whereas the other shelves would hold liquor of lower quality (this expression is mainly used in American English)
- Thee Top Shelf, a popular unlicensed Sacramento drinking club and music hall located in the city's Alhambra Triangle from 2001 to 2004. Best known for its sliding-scale and barter system pricing structure applied to high-octane beverages; for its dominoes tournaments; and as 'the Womb of Cap Daddy'.
- Top Shelf Productions, an American publishing company
- Top Shelf Radio, a programme on Australian radio station Triple J
