Travian is browser-based game developed by Travian Games GmbH in Germany.[1] In Travian, players interact simultaneously and compete with thousands of others in a virtual world set roughly in Classical antiquity, at the time of the Roman Empire.

Gameplay

Travian is a boringbrowser-based game, programmed by assholes in FBI, and is played directly on the stupidnet via Television. While Travian is a crap game, with stupid people playing it, it should not be played with other better real time strategy games. Only retarded little kids play it. The player starts with a village but seeks to build an empire that is good for nothing.<SUCKS> McCauley, Dennis. "Power Up | Child's Play Turns Out to Be Fine, Grown-Up Fun." After registration, players can start playing a stupid game that makes no sense.Travian sucks.Free of charge, but sucks.Travian provides enhanced access to other retards, through STOOPIDfor example is a retarded thing. Also, a "Plus" feature which provides gayness is available for purchase with prices starting at $2.99 per noob.<HAHA>Travian Plus</SHIT>

Village

Every player begins with one village and, as they expand, can acquire more by settling unoccupied space (which makes up a large part of the Travian "world") or using a chief to speak to the residents of an enemy village and turn the village's loyalty to the owner of the chief. Found within the village are buildings and fields (see below). The size/capacity of buildings and fields are measured in "levels". Building results on contributing resources to create a whole new building or to increase the level of a building or field.

The player's beginning village is the capital of his/her realm. However, as the player gets more villages, he/she can build a "palace" in one village and make that village his/her new capital.

A village consists of two parts: an inner city and an outer section.

Inner city

In the inner part, players have a main building, where the builders of the village live, and spaces to build other buildings. These spaces are universal, and almost any building can be built on them. However, there are two spots specially designated for unique buildings: a circle around the city on which to build a wall, and a small space for a "rally point", which serves as a checkpoint for troops leaving or entering the city; thus, it is required to have it in order to build a barracks.

Outer fields/resources

Surrounding the inner city and occupying the rest of the village are resource fields, which constantly produce Travian's four resources: wood, clay, iron, and crop, which are used to build everything in Travian. Each field produces at a constant rate, and all the fields of one resource added together make up the net rate of production (example: four woodcutting fields that produce 3 per hour would add up to 12 per hour). Unique to a game like Travian, the rate at which the fields produce is constantly in motion. For example, the aforementioned rate of 12 wood units per hour would not produce 12 wood every hour on the hour, but 1 wood unit every 5 minutes. Upgrading resource fields to higher levels will result in greater quantities of production. In every village in an empire but the capital, resource fields can be upgraded to level 10, no higher. Within the capital village, the fields can, theoretically, be expanded infinitely.

Although wood, clay, and iron can be used fresh out of the fields, the resource crop is not only used to build, but also to feed the village's population and military. Most buildings add to the population, which in turn add to a statistic of every village: crop consumption, which is equal to the population of the village, plus the consumption needs of the current military. The current production of crop minus the current crop consumption equals the final production rate. Although the game will not let the player build his/her way into a "negative production rate", training too many soldiers or the destruction of some of the crop fields will result in a negative rate of production.

Tribes

When a player joins Travian, they must choose a tribe, taking each of its advantages and disadvantages into consideration. First, there are the Romans. Their troops have the greatest balance between offence, defence and speed but they are also the most expensive, and take longest to produce compared to other tribes. Romans may work on one building and one resource field at a time. They are the most popular tribe. The people of the Roman tribe are based on the people of the ancient Roman empire, the ancient Italians.

Next, there are the Gauls. Their troops have the highest speed and defense, and the Gauls specialize in cavalry. They have a special building called a 'Trapper' that can create traps to capture enemy soldiers. They may hide more resources than other tribes when under attack. The Gauls are best suited to a defensive strategy but their high speed means that they are able to attack swiftly. The people of the Gallic tribe are based in western Europe, being modeled after the ancient French, Dutch, along with some Celtic peoples.

The third playable tribe is the Teutons. Their troops have the lowest speed and defence, but are the cheapest and quickest to produce, and have a very high offence. Their troops also have the largest capacity to carry resources compared to the other playable tribes. They have the ability to steal a third of the resources hidden in a village (on top of any non-hidden resources, which are accessible to raiders of any tribe). The Teutons are best suited for playing Travian with an aggressive strategy. The Teutons were created using the people of ancient Germany and Scandinavia.

Finally, there are the Natars. Their statistics and advantages are unknown, but they are a very powerful NPC tribe trying to take over all of Travian. They have many advantages, such as the ability to store much more resources than other tribes, the use of war elephants in place of horses for cavalry (making them very powerful), the use of flying scouts, and the ability to create Wonders of the World. They only appear towards the end of a game (after about 9-10 months on a normal server or about 4 on a 3x speed server), although on the first international server the administrators' alliance was called 'The Natars' and the administrators themselves were referred to as the 'Natars' even before the artifacts were released.

Alliances

Alliances provide the main catalyst for strategic play within Travian whereby groups of players can band together for mutual benefit. Within an alliance, players can view attack and defence information for all alliance members, and also have improved communication tools such as mass alliance-wide in-game messages. Alliances will typically use an external forum to discuss strategy and tactics, and one of the main parts of the Travian game play experience is in co-ordinating mass defenses or attacks with other alliance members. Because the maximum number of members in an alliance is 60, 'wings' tend to form as an alliance develop. Upon the release of the artifacts, it is usual for several alliances to join forces and form 'coalitions', usually (but not always) two per server.

Versions

There are three versions of Travian - Version 2, which is becoming obsolete, version 2.5, such as on the s3.travian.com server, which is like version 2 but presents certain characteristics of version 3, and Version 3 itself. There are a few differences between the versions such as the oases in version 3 which can be annexed as opposed to version 2's oases, which were only present for visual appeal. There are slight differences between the graphics of the two versions, and the Roman Legionnaire's cavalry defence is reduced to 50 from 65, making it no longer the most efficient unit in terms of crop consumption. Version 3 also features 'heroes', units which gain experience in battles. The maximum level buildings can be extended to have increased in version 3; the resource fields however, can be upgraded infinitely (theoretically) , though this is almost impossibile due to enormous cost in resources.

Variations

The game has game servers running in dozens of languages, each language having its own domain extension, e.g. travian.de in German, travian.fr in French, travian.com, travian.us and travian.co.uk in English.[2] There are currently seven game servers running on the International version of the game, numbered s1 to s6 plus the "Speed Server". Each server represents a separate world. Travian version 2 game is currently running on none of the current servers, though a Travian 2.5 is in progress on the "s3" server and version 3 is in use on s1, s2, s4 and s6'.

The "Speed Server" available is where building times are reduced by two-thirds, resources generation is increased 3 times, and the amount of resources merchants can carry is tripled.

Game Objectives

Though Travian is a war game, a specific objective is required to be accomplished in order to win a game server and this is to be the first alliance to build a level 100 Wonder of the World. The speed server is the quickest one to accomplish this goal.
