The Gruber-De Gasperi Agreement, named after the foreign ministers of Austria (Karl Gruber) and Italy (Alcide De Gasperi), of September 1946, allowed Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol to remain part of Italy, but ensured its autonomy.
