A trial is, in the most general sense, a test, usually a test to see whether something does or does not meet a given standard.

It may refer to:

  • Trial (law), the presentation of information in a formal setting, usually a court
  • Sea trial, the final stage of constructing and testing a ship
  • Evaluation, e.g. of software products in a trial version
  • Clinical trial, a medical research study
  • Bernoulli trial, any experiment with two possible random outcomes
  • Trial grammatical number, in linguistics, a grammatical form which signifies that there are three of something
  • Motorcycle trials an offroad competitive test based on using specialist motorcycles
