Trinity College London (TCL) is an external examinations board for English language learners and teachers, music, drama, Arts Award and KeyStage 2. Trinity College London offers qualifications across a range of disciplines in the performing arts and arts education and English language learning and teaching. Most notably, Trinity College London is the awarding body for the series of professional performing arts courses that are funded in part by the Dance and Drama Awards scheme.
Trinity exams are taken in over 60 countries each year.
Trinity began offering examinations in music to external students in 1877, and later expanded its provision to offer examinations in other areas of the performing arts. In 2004, Trinity College London's performing arts examinations division merged with the external examinations department of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama to form Trinity Guildhall. In addition to grade examinations, music and drama diplomas are available at three levels - Associateship (ATCL), Licentiateship (LTCL), and Fellowship (FTCL). Today, Trinity Guildhall offers qualifications in performing and teaching in areas such as music, speech and drama, and dance.
Assessments in English language learning and teaching were first offered by Trinity College London in 1938. Today, Trinity College London ESOL offers certificates in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) for non-native speakers of English, and in Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) for teachers of non-native speakers of English.
