[edit] History

The College was started with courses in three traditional branches of engineering, namely Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. It was initially affiliated to the University of Calcutta and had the same curriculum structure and examination system as of Bengal Engineering College, the other institute affiliated to the University. After the establishment of Tripura University, the college was affiliated to it. After the enactment of the NIT Act the institute has become an "Institute of National Importance" and will shift to a new campus presently under construction.[2]

[edit] Academics

The institute offers eight undergraduate programs in Engineering of four year duration. Undergraduate programs lead to the B.Tech. degrees. Post graduate M.tech courses are also being offered. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering offers a three year degree in Masters in Computer Applications(MCA) course. PhD and post doctorate fellowships are also offered by some departments.

[edit] Student life

The institute has six hostels for male students, two for female students and an additional for freshmen only. Since the construction works are getting delayed, every two freshmen are allotted a single 120 square feet (11 m2) room.

The annual tech-fest, Aayam and cultural fest, Moksha are being organised every year by the third year undergraduate students. There are many other dormant clubs such as science club, electronics club, robotics club, photography club and more.
