Troitsk (Russian: Тро́ицк) is a town in Moscow Oblast, Russia, located on the Desna River 37 kilometers (23 mi) southwest of Moscow on the Kaluzhskoye Highway. Population: 39,874 (2010 Census);[3] 32,653 (2002 Census);[4] 29,301 (1989 Census).[6]

Troitsk was first mentioned in 1646 as a settlement of Troitskoye (Тро́ицкое).[citation needed] It was renamed Troitsk and granted town status in 1977.[citation needed]
[edit] Administrative and municipal status
Administratively, it is incorporated as Troitsk Town Under Oblast Jurisdiction—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.[1] Municipally, Troitsk Town Under Oblast Jurisdiction is incorporated as Troitsk Urban Okrug.[2]
