A tropic can refer to:
In geography, either of two circles of latitude that mark the northernmost and southernmost latitudes at which the sun may be seen directly overhead:
- Tropic of Cancer, at 23° 26' 16" N
- Tropic of Capricorn, at 23° 26' 16" S
So that a person or location said to be "in the tropics" is situated south of the Tropic of Cancer and north of the Tropic of Capricorn.
