The Tsimané (Chimané) are an indigenous people of lowland Bolivia, living in the Pilon Lajas Reserve in the Beni Department. They are still a hunter-gatherer culture, although the settlements are becoming more stable. The Consejo Regional Tsimane Mosetene (CRTM) is the organization that represents the interests of this indigenous group.

The Tsimané are also known as the Achumano, Chamano, Chimanis, Chimanisa, Chimnisin, Chumano, Nawazi-Moñtji, and Ramano people.[1]

The Tsimané people speak the Tsimané language, which is a language isolate. It has two dialects: Tsimane proper and Mosetén. The Mosetén people moved in with the Tsimané communities are their dialects are mutually intelligible.[2]

[edit] Subsistence

Tsimané and Mosetén people fish, hunt, and farm for a living. They cultivate bananas and manioc through swidden agriculture.[2]

The Tsimane Health and Life History Project has studied the Tsimane since 2002. [3] Among other things, it appears that they do not develop heart disease as they age in the same ways as people in the developed world. [4] [5]
