A twinset, twin set or sweater-set is a matching set of a cardigan and a jumper. The twinset first appeared in the 1940s.[citation needed]
[edit] Description
The classic twinset is knitted in wool or cashmere. Twinsets have been famously worn by Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe and many other feminine icons.
The under-sweater is usually worn tight-fitting and the cardigan is worn unbuttoned. This combination is often accompanied by a string of pearls.
The twinset is often deployed in films to indicate the character of the wearer. In modern usage, it tends to indicate conservatism or frumpiness. For example, Joan Cusack in the 2004 film 'School of Rock' wears a grey twinset, intended to indicate how conservative she is.
