UMBEL (Upper Mapping and Binding Exchange Layer) is an ontology structure for relating data to a standard set of subject concepts. It is pronounced like "humble". The ontology is provided as Linked Data with Web services access and SPARQL endpoints. The project began in July 2007. UMBEL is based on a reduced subset OpenCyc knowledge base. UMBEL is provided as open source under the Creative Commons 3.0 Share Alike license.[1]
