[edit] History

The Nashville, TN based company[2] first launched at University of California, Santa Barbara in January 2007.[3] As of November 2009, the resource is live on over 1500 colleges and universities across the United States, and employs 80 part-time college students,[1][3][4] who hold either a campus marketing position or a local sales position. In the fall of 2007, Gannett made an investment in Uloop.[5] Recently Uloop.com illegally fired students for unionizing.[6] After being subjected an unannounced pay cut from $10/hr to $8/hr, Cal Poly student marketing representatives Austin Garrido and Sarah Doolittle were fired by their employer, Mountain View-based Uloop.com, for attempting to organize a worker's union. The students were fired from their part-time jobs 20 minutes after posting a message in an online inter-company form announcing their intention to form a union. Doolittle and Garrido have filed charges with the National Labor Relations Board.[7]

The service is only available to students with a valid school email address.[1]

[edit] Traffic

Uloop currently reaches around 3.5 million college students, or 10% of the total college students in the United States. Their website generates around 50,000 views per month and they have over 500,000 active listings.[8]
