The 1956 United States general election was held on Tuesday, November 6, 1956. All United States House of Representatives seats and one third of the United States Senate seats were contested in this election.
- United States presidential election, 1956: Republican incumbent Dwight D. Eisenhower defeated Democratic challenger Adlai E. Stevenson in a rematch of their contest 4 years earlier.
- United States Senate elections, 1956: The party balance of the chamber remained unchanged as Republican and Democratic gains cancelled each other.
- United States House of Representatives elections, 1956: Republicans lost a net of two seats to the majority Democrats.
