“A ship is safe in harbor, but that's not what ships are for.” -- William Shedd
Hi, I'm Applejuicefool, a 42-year old high school teacher living in Big Spring, Texas. Here are some more facts about me:
- Before becoming a teacher, I had a career as a newspaper reporter. I started at the Port Arthur News and worked there 2.5 years. My next reporting gig was at the Weslaco bureau of the Valley Morning Star (Harlingen) and The Monitor (McAllen). I worked there for six months before moving to West Texas, where I worked two years for the Big Spring Herald.
- After leaving the Port Arthur News, I moved to College Station and had a brief, unsuccessful stint with Steve Jackson Games. My job was to transfer some of their old roleplaying adventures into downloadable PDF format. Due to a combination of factors, my work for SJG was unsatisfactory to the management of that company, and I was let go after 2 months.
- I was born in Baltimore, Maryland, but grew up in Port Arthur, Texas. I attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur. In 2002, TJHS was merged with Port Arthur's other high schools (Abraham Lincoln High School and Stephen F. Austin High School) to form Memorial High School. Memorial was physically located at the old Jefferson campus for several years, but now has a brand-new campus of its very own.
- My reason for moving to West Texas is that I met a wonderful woman, a Colorado City native, through Yahoo! Personals. Six months later, she became my wife. She is 11 years my senior, and has grown children and grandchildren living in the area, so naturally was loathe to move elsewhere.
- I enjoy:
-
- Games of all types - Board, Card, CCG, Roleplaying, Tabletop/Miniature, Computer, Arcade, etc. etc. Until recently, I played the MMORPGs World of Warcraft and EVE Online, but have moved on to other things. I recently acquired Sid Meier's Civilization V.
- Reading, especially science fiction, fantasy, and magical realism. Right now I'm reading The Magician King by Lev Grossman.
- Movies. The last movie I saw in the theater was Conan the Barbarian with Jason Momoa, Rachel Nichols, Stephen Lang, and Ron Perlman. It was certainly more Conan-y than Ah-nold's version, but it was lacking something.

| Your spirited defense of Santa Claus gave me renewed faith that people aren't as awful as I often suspect. Thank you for caring about things many others have long ceased finding important. Jeffpw (talk) 22:19, 11 December 2007 (UTC) |
